HOOKED ON HOBGOBLIN
Organisers of the Evesham Angling Festival are celebrating a new partnership for match fishing’s showpiece event.
Hobgoblin – Wychwood Brewery’s flagship beer brand – has agreed to become title sponsor for The Hobgoblin Evesham Championship – the headline event of the Evesham Angling Festival.
The match – which invites 35 of the nation’s top anglers and pits them against 35 qualifiers – carries a top prize of £3,000 and kicks off the biggest spectator angling event in the calendar.
“Its great news,” said festival director Roger Mortimer. “Three years ago we added a beer and cider festival to the weekend’s attractions so getting a headliner from that field to support the angling action is a real coup.”
“This year’s event will see all the members of the England national sides taking part on a river that’s been fishing very well during the qualifying events.”
The brewery have agreed an initial one-match sponsorship package that will see winners walk away with samples of its legendary beer and commemorative Hobgoblin tankards as well as the cash and trophies.
The Evesham Angling Festival takes place on bank holiday weekend – August 27th to 29th – on the Warwickshire Avon in Evesham Worcestershire. It features the finals of three top events – The Hobgoblin Evesham Championship, The Wychavon Championship and The Match Fishing Team Championship – and regularly attracts bumper crowds of spectators.
